Independence and external links

Save Jodrell Bank is a community-driven project developed and maintained independently by James Donnelly. It is not affiliated with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), Jodrell Bank Observatory, the University of Manchester, or any of their associated organisations.

Links to other websites are included for convenience and reference. Their content, availability and privacy practices are the responsibility of the organisations that operate them.

Privacy

This website does not offer user accounts, use advertising technology, set tracking cookies or collect sender details for analytics. Most pages are static files delivered through Cloudflare. Cloudflare may process standard technical request metadata, including IP addresses and request data, to deliver and protect the website in accordance with its privacy policy (opens in a new tab).

When you email the site maintainer, your email provider and the maintainer will process the information you include in that email in order to respond. Please do not send sensitive personal information unless necessary. The site maintainer does not sell or share email correspondence for marketing purposes.

MP lookup and correspondence generator

When you submit a postcode on the Take Action page, it is sent by POST to a same-domain Cloudflare Worker and forwarded to UK Parliament solely to identify the current MP and retrieve official constituency and contact details. The application does not persist the postcode, include it in its response or intentionally write it to logs. Cloudflare and UK Parliament necessarily process the lookup request under their own policies, including UK Parliament's website privacy notice (opens in a new tab).

After a successful lookup, a private Cloudflare D1 database stores only the constituency ID, constituency name and one cumulative successful-lookup count. It does not store the postcode, request IP, time of lookup or an individual event record. These totals count lookup events, not unique people, and are not published through the website.

The lookup is rate limited to protect the service and UK Parliament's systems. Request-level technical information is used temporarily to apply that limit, but it is not written to D1. Cloudflare may still process standard request metadata for delivery and security.

Your name, postal address, optional letter contact email, letter date and edits stay in React state in your browser. They are not sent to this website, stored in local storage or included in analytics, and they are discarded when the page reloads.

DOCX and PDF letters are generated locally in your browser. The website does not upload, submit or retain the generated document or the personal information it contains. Once downloaded, the file is stored and managed through your browser and device in the same way as any other download.

Opening an email draft creates a mailto:link in your browser containing the selected MP email address, subject and correspondence text. That link is handed directly to your email application; it is not submitted to this website or the Cloudflare Worker. Your email application, email provider and the MP's office will process the information after the message is sent.

MP portraits and contact details are supplied by UK Parliament. Portraits remain subject to Parliament's official portrait attribution guidance (opens in a new tab) and the licensing terms shown beside each portrait.
